Kids always have and always will love animals and, if we're honest, even the most grown up people will still let out a little ""awwww"" at a lamb, or a cute duckling. Perhaps surprisingly for a city, attractions in London include free to visit farms that allow children to interact with animals that wouldn't normally be found in the urban environment. So whatever your age, the free farms make a great day out for any visitor.
Deen City Farm in South London has long been a favourite for children and families with a passion for animals, it provides a home for pigs, poultry, horses, rabbits, sheep and cows amongst other farmyard favourites. Whilst the animals are given their own space to live in, the farm does also have designated petting areas, allowing you and your childeren to get up close to all of the animals, making it a really memorable day out for the whole family.
Freightliners farm in North London is also a must see for any family looking to visit London for a distinctly animal themed day. Whilst having a wide variety of animals, it is a working farm that is still used for the production of food, however, where Freightliners differs to other farms is it’s strict non-slaughter policy. The farm is not set up for meat consumption and many animals after being used to produce eggs are sold to visitors to the farm, so you can rest assured that these animals are in good hands. The farm also operates a beekeeping unit, which provides youngsters and grown ups alike with information on how crucial these creatures are to our day to day lives, as well as giving tips on how to make your garden more bee-friendly as part of an ongoing bee conservation project. The farm also operates a rare breeds section, giving visitors the chance to get up close to some animals that may be in danger of extinction, or that would certainly be difficult to see in the wild.
You can be sure that you and your family will have a great day out at any one of these attractions. Although the farms shown on our site are all free to visit they do have substantial running costs, so if you can afford it please leave a donation.
