Along with the adjacent Chalk Wood, this is a site of ancient woodland extending over 350 acres.
There are historic features here including sections of a Saxon earthwork, the medieval Hadlow Well, bomb craters from the second world war and a memorial to two RAF Hurricane pilots who were shot down here during the Battle of Britain.
